school assemblies on the Chesapeake

The Chesapeake Bay area is starting to get more involved with STEM ideas in their elementary education. STEM education is a teaching method that focuses on the areas of science, technology, engineering, and math. STEM ideas and STEAM ideas are becoming increasingly popular in elementary education, as they provide a hands-on way for students to learn about these important subjects. In the Norfolk area, several schools have started STEM programs for kindergarten through 6th grade students. Some of these programs often meet after school and may include activities such as building robots or working on introducing coding to elementary students.  STEM education can help develop important problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

SchoolAssemblies’ BOT! The Secret World of Robots show has a goal to introduce activities and concepts that are related to what the students are learning in their STEM classes so they can have a better understanding.  This way they can see how the things they are learning in school can be applied in real life. The program has been a smashing success so far and has inspired other schools in Virginia to pursue similar goals.   STEM education is important because it helps students with problem solving and working collectively with other elementary students. It also helps them develop skills that they will need in the future, such as coding and engineering. Schools in Norfolk and the surrounding area are taking steps in the right direction by incorporating STEM into their elementary education.

Additionally, it can also be a lot of fun! Take a look at our STEAM Education assembly and give your students a chance to explore their interests and discover new talents!
